Pakistani Foreign Secretary commends Sri Lanka’s progress.

Mahinda Rajapaksha 3The visiting Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Jalil Abbas Jilani  who made a courtesy call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat told the President that “there is a marked difference” in Sri Lanka compared to his last visit to the country.

He said that there is peace and tranquility which anyone can feel, and massive development anyone can witness.   He said that Pakistan deeply appreciate and admire the manner in which the Sri Lankan government has been able to handle and eliminate terrorism.

The President in return thanked Pakistan for its continuous support both during and after the war, and said that Pakistan played a crucial role in assisting Sri Lanka during decisive points. Pakistan made a major role in canvassing support for Sri Lanka at the recent American resolution against the country submitted at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva.

The President and the Pakistani Foreign Secretary also discussed about the upcoming general election in Pakistan and the need to increase women’s participation in politics.

Jilani thanked President Mahinda Rajapaksa for Sri Lanka’s support to Pakistan during the dengue epidemic that Pakistan faced in 2011, and for sending a dengue eradication team that assisted in training of Pakistani medical personnel.

Director General (South Asia) of the Pakistani Foreign Affairs Ministry Ms. Riffat Masood, Pakistan High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Qasim Qureshi and Deputy Head of Mission in Sri Lanka Ms. Amna Baloch, Minister of External Affairs Prof. GL Peiris, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs Karunatilake Amunugama were also present at the meeting.
