SARADO Conference in Sri Lanka

With the intention of creating
awareness amongst the sporting fraternity by empowering sports bodies in
the South Asian Regional Anti Doping Organization’ ( SARADO) will be
hosting their Conference in Sri Lanka from April 3 - 5, 2013 at Blue
Waters Hotel Wadduwa, the Ministry of Sports said.
This Convention represents the
governments around the world which have agreed to apply the force of
international law to anti-doping, becoming the most successful
convention in the history of UNESCO in terms of rhythm of ratification
after adoption –, the Convention is now the second most ratified of all
UNESCO treaties.
Sri Lanka is a member of the ‘World Anti
Doping Agency’ (WADA) consisting of 126 member countries and striving
to keep all sports clean with our zero tolerance policy, strict Anti
doping procedures, Awareness programs and Seminars which have already
shown a significant drop since signing the “International Convention
against Doping in sports for the control of the use of prohibited drugs
in 2011.
Sri Lanka has shown a significant
improvement in preventing doping in sports following the signing of the
International Convention Against Doping in Sports for the Control of the
use of Prohibited Drugs in 2011. According to the institute of Sports
Medicine 14 doping detections were made in year 2011 and in 2012 and it
has significantly reduced to 01.
Sri Lanka has spent over Rs. 3 million
on Anti Doping Testing, with further funds from UNESCO for the
‘Elimination of Doping in Sports’ to utilize in spreading awareness in
the provinces through seminars.
