Sri Lanka Army recruits civilian farmers for Kandakadu Farm

Sri Lanka Army, for the first time in military history, has recruited professional farmers to the army. They commenced agricultural operations in Kandakadu Agriculture Farm in Welikanda on May 12.
The group comprising 139 males and 61 females recruited as militarized civilians enjoy all the benefits of uniformed personnel and the males are eligible for pension after 22 years of service while the period for females is 15 years.
Kandakadu farm which was under the control of the LTTE was taken under the control of the Army in 2011. Army have already cultivated 300 acres of the farm and expects to cultivate further 300 acres.
Kandakadu farm was one of the largest animal farms with a land extent of 11,140 acres.
