Academia has urged the government to be proactive in facing the potential challenges from the pro-tiger terrorist international community, NGOs and Tamil Diaspora in the future. They have pointed out that this is the best and effective way to counter the challenges being posed by these anti-Sri Lankan elements.
This was emphasized by the President’s Counsel Ali Sabri participating in a discussion programme conducted by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation. Sabri said that rather than responding to the challenges steps should be taken to identify potential challenges that may be posed by the anti-Sri Lankan elements in all spheres of Sri Lankan activities.
He said that this mechanism proved its effectiveness in the humanitarian operation carried out to liberate the country from the tiger terrorists and during that time a special unit was in operation to counter charges against Sri Lanka ahead of such charges being made.
Sabri said that this proposed Proactive Unit should consist representatives of the Security Forces, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Attorney General’s Department. In addition to this, he said that Sri Lanka should also launch a programme to keep the international community advised of the atrocities suffered by Sri Lankan nationals under the clutches of terrorists and the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the country, and steps being taken and being implemented by the country to establish national reconciliation and to improve the life standards of the people.
