President Rajapaksa declared open the new Building Complex of the Colombo District Secretariat Friday (17) amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith by members of the Maha Sangha.

The Complex is located at Elvitigala Mawatha in Narahenpita. Work has been completed on six floors of the Complex under the first phase and the expenditure incurred on it was 1600 million rupees.

The President also launched the new website of the District Secretariat.

The second stage construction work of the Complex will commence during this year, the cost of whic would be 3000 million rupees. The Complex will have twelve floors when the entire work is completed. It will also have a parking space which could accommodate 300 vehicles at a time.

Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Ministers W.D.J. Seneviratne, Susil Premajayantha, Dinesh Gunawardena and Gamini Lokuge, Deputy Ministers Geethanjana Gunawardena and Vijaya Dahanayake and Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana were among those present on the occasion.
