Tens of thousands take to the streets to denounce plots against the State

People in their thousands massed in Colombo yesterday to join in a march to express solidarity with the Government ‘which has done much to establish peace and harmony among all ethnic groups and launched a massive development drive.
They called upon the working class and all people who love the motherland to join hands to protect the hard won peace and defeat attempts by conspirators.
A large of number trade union members, politicians and general public - men & women, joined the demonstration, themed ‘Let’s defeat all anti-government plots’. The massive march started from the Lake House roundabout at 3 p.m. and proceeded to Pettah, where finally a rally was held opposite Colombo Fort Railway Station..
Trade Union Leaders who joined in this march said that the present government headed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa has created a peaceful environment for the citizens to live in freedom and that such an environment has not been created in any part of the world. They stressed that no room will be left for anyone to reverse these programmes. They emphasized that they would rise up to defeat attempts by conspirators.
The participants in the march underlined with one voice that they would not be caught up in the conspiratorial forces which are steered under the guidance of a group of Non Governmental Organizations at a time when the country was daily advancing towards prosperity, while tasting the freedom that has dawned linking the North and the South.
