Govt. and Opp. parties solve Gampaha water crisis

Representatives
of all political parties in the Gampaha District joined to give a
permanent solution to the acute water problem facing the people of
Rathupaswala. Short and long term solutions were found yesterday
(August 2) with immediate effect to end the crisis which affected 12
villages near Weliweriya, Gampaha.
In this connection Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa convened a meeting of all political parties
represented in the district at the Gampaha Government Agent’s Office
Friday afternoon. The participants included UPFA, UNP, Frontline
Socialist Party representatives, Gampaha GA, senior government officials
and officials of the Environment, Health, Water Resources and
Investment Promotion Ministries.
Following the decision reached at the
meeting 10 tractor trailers and six more bowsers were deployed to
provide 300 water tanks to the 12 villages, in addition to the bowsers
already providing water to the people. Minister Basil Rajapaksa also
gave instructions to the relevant authorities to implement without delay
the plan for providing the people of Rathupaswala with pipe-borne water
as a permanent solution to the problem. He also stressed the need for
protecting the environment and raising the people’s living standards
parallel to these measures.
