Sinhalese people have Sri Lanka as their only country. They feel insecure that there might be some joining together of Tamil Nadu and north-eastern Sri Lanka. That insecurity has sometimes resulted in anti-Tamil brutality but I aim to change this mindset on both sides.
This has been stated by the new Chief Minister for North C.V Vigneswaran in an interview with BBC’s Charles Haviland.
He has said that the TNA’s plans for self-determination in the north do not amount to a separatist agenda, and instead, the party is trying to put pre-existing laws into effect.
He has told the BBC that they do not hate anybody, they do not have problems with anyone, and they are only asking for their rights to exist by themselves as Tamils recognising their own individuality.(niz)
